Accessible boats
Board, helm and step ashore on your own
In a wheelchair too
For years we have specialised in something the market still treats as an exception: making a boat genuinely usable by someone with a mobility disability. Not a fit-out from a catalogue, but a project built around the person who will be aboard.
- 1
Getting aboard
The hard part is not the sailing, it is the boarding. We work out the platform, the ladder, the passage and the boarding point around the pontoon or the beach you actually use.
- 2
Moving around on board
Widths, freeboard heights, handholds, non-slip surfaces, obstacles taken off the deck. In a wheelchair or on your arms, you have to be able to reach wherever you need to.
- 3
The helm position
Wheel, engine controls, ignition and instruments brought to a height and a distance you can reach sitting down.
- 4
Safety
Wheelchair anchor points, supportive seating, grab points — and sea trials done together before handover.
Every project starts with a meeting at the yard: we look together at how you move, what you do on your own and what you would like to be able to do. The boat comes out of that conversation.
The questions we get asked most
Can a boat I already own be adapted?
In most cases yes. It has to be seen: cockpit width, freeboard height, where the controls are and how the transom is built all matter. One visit to the yard is enough to tell.
Do I need a special boating licence?
In Italy the licence is obtained under the same rules; applicants with a disability go through a specific medical assessment and the licence may carry requirements about how the boat is adapted. We help you understand which adaptations meet them, but the final word belongs to the medical board and the Coast Guard.
What does it cost to make a boat accessible?
It varies too much from case to case to put a figure here. After the survey you get a written quote with the items listed separately, so you can decide what to do now and what to leave for later.
Are there grants or tax relief?
There may be tax relief for mobility aids and grants from regional bodies or associations. We do not give tax advice: we give you detailed technical documentation of the work, which is what an application needs.
Tell us about the boat you have in mind
One phone call, two questions about how you use the sea, and we will tell you straight away whether we can build it, how, and how long it takes. No obligation, no sales talk.
